Sit In Peace With The Lord

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe we are in 2026. I thought for sure we’d be driving flying cars by now, but nope, not yet! I’m sure it’s being worked on as we speak though 😉

Back in the 1950’s and 60’s science fiction movies gave us the perception that by now we would be traveling around in flying cars. Yet, here we are, still driving on pavement to get from one place to another (and I’m ok with that!). The fact is, many perceived that by this time, our form of travel would be more advanced due to the abundance of movies, comic books and magazines that were put out. It took time to realize that what we perceived would happen, didn’t happen. It doesn’t mean it won’t happen, it just means it’s a possibility. According to the Cambridge dictionary, perception is a belief or opinion, often held by many people and based on how things seem. That’s the thing with perception…everything may point in one direction, appear a certain way, or seem like something is going to happen, yet it may not be that way or even happen at all. Whatever the case, we must put our trust in God and seek His truth and guidance. We must keep living life and doing what the Lord has called us to do, keeping our eyes focused on Him at all times and pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

This year has been a tumultuous year for many people, be it in our families, our nation and the world. It’s been loud, chaotic and emotional. It’s been a time of uncertainty with people’s health, finances and jobs. Just like in combat, it sometimes seems like we are getting hit from all sides as if we are surrounded. It’s easy to be thrown off course when we are dealing with emotional situations. That is why we must remain close to Jesus and trust that He will give us clarity in difficult times. We must do what His Word says when our flesh wants to take over. We must remember His promises when fiery darts of discouragement, fear and anger wish to take root in our mind.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

In this new year, let’s be determined to take a step back each day, if only for a moment, and disengage from the battle of our situations and the world, and sit in peace with the Lord. Your heart, mind and spirit need it.
