Do Not Allow Fear To Rule You

For God has not given us a spirit of fear,

but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

Fear is a powerful emotion that can keep one from moving forward. It’s like a taser where once it hits you, it seizes you up, making you unable to move. It is a powerful weapon for a person or an enemy to use against another to get the desired effect they want. The Assyrians utilized fear along with intimidation to defeat many armies. They would threaten their opponents repeatedly, reminding them of how many other armies they defeated in the past. It was the policy of the Assyrians to make an example of those who resisted or rebelled against them by doing horrific things to their opponents. They were a ruthless people who tortured their opponents and who relied on terrorizing people and intimidating them into submission. Once they captured a town, they would deport them and separate them into different areas. By doing so it was to ensure the captives could not gather together and become strong against them. Those who resisted the Assyrians were killed. The rest were deported and used for their abilities and skills.

The enemy uses fear in our lives to prohibit us from moving forward and healing. Doubtful thoughts such as “I can’t do this” “I’m nothing” “I have no purpose” can often play in a person’s mind over and over to make us quit. Sometimes the words come from other people and can be said so much we begin to believe it. Some people will utilize fear and intimidation to control an action of another person or to get a desired effect from them. In war, fear and intimidation is used to crush the spirit of an opposing force so they have no desire to fight any longer.

When we turn to Christ and trust in Him for help, He will break that fear that has been placed upon us and will strengthen us. He will help us to overcome any problem, any situation or any trial. He will give us the strength to continue on in the race and not give up. Philippians 4:13 states:

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

In order to overcome fear, we must face the fear head on through the power of Jesus Christ. We must utilize the Word of God which is the Sword of the Spirit to combat and defeat fear in our lives.

What situation has you in fear today? What person is causing fear and intimidation in you? Pick up your sword…the Bible… and believe in the power of God to help you to overcome your fear. Do not allow fear to rule you. If the enemy can rule your emotions, he can rule you. Trust in in Christ, your powerful King, to help you defeat your fears today so you can continue moving forward in your healing. We must always remember the authority Christ has given to us to defeat any stronghold of the enemy as we see in Luke 10:19:

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

“Lord, help me to defeat any fears in my life beginning today. Give me the strength to face it and defeat it through the Word of God. Help me to defeat fear on Your turf and not the enemy’s turf. Lord, open my eyes to anything in my life that may be keep the door of fear open and help me to close that door to fear for good. I ask this in the name of Jesus…Amen”
